Stony Brook, N.Y. - Sunday will pit two of the top three teams in the conference standings against each other when undefeated and No. 18 UMass Lowell squares off with the the Stony Brook men's soccer team (7-3-2, 2-1 AE) at 2 pm.
Scouting UMass Lowell
The Riverhawks are one of three remaining undefeated teams in the country with a record of 9-0-2 and 2-0-1 in America East action. First team all-conference selection from 2015, Wuilito Fernandes, leads the team with eight goals to go along with two assists. Redshirt freshman Ivan Abramovic has formed a formidable one-two punch with Fernandes up top with six goals and seven assists. Carlos Ruiz has added three goals and three assists. The Riverhawks have been particularly impressive on the defensive side of the ball, allowing just seven goals in 11 matches for the 16th-best goals against average in the country. They have not given up more than one goal in any game this season. Goalkeeper Austin Kroll leads the league in goals against average (.60) and save percentage (.816).
Success Against Ranked Teams
UMass Lowell's national ranking shouldn't faze the Seawolves as they have won their last two match-ups against ranked teams, including their last home game, a 2-0 win over No. 25 New Hampshire. The Seawolves downed No. 17 Hofstra last October 3-0. A win over the Riverhawks would be the highest-ranked opponent the Seawolves have ever defeated at home.
Dominant Duval
Junior midfielder Thibault Duval (Liege, Belgium) is on fire! The reigning America East Co-Player of the Week recorded his second consecutive two-goal game in Stony Brook's win at Hartford, scoring the tying and go-ahead goals late in the contest. Duval scored five goals through his first 42 career games, but has four over his last two to lead the team with six goals on the season.
