Stony Brook hosts UMBC in Friday night clash

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team begins the second trip through the America East schedule by hosting UMBC Friday night at Pritchard Gymnasium.

Pink Out Pritchard
The Seawolves will wear pink uniforms and accessories for Friday's match to raise awareness and support for those fighting breast cancer. Those in attendance for the match are encouraged to wear pink as well.

Last Time Out: UMass Lowell/Hartford
The Seawolves split a pair of matches last weekend, as Stony Brook tallied a sweep at UMass Lowell and fell in four sets at Hartford.

Scouting the Retrievers
UMBC's 13 wins so far in 2016 eclipse the Retrievers' totals from both 2014 (10) and 2015 (12). UMBC enters the weekend tied for second in the conference with New Hampshire.

Abbie Mirabella leads the America East with 3.94 kills/set, while Claudia Lopez paces the conference with 10.74 assists/set. Kristin Watson is second in the conference with 4.70 digs/set.

The Last Time We Met: UMBC
The Seawolves and Retrievers battled to five sets in Baltimore Sept. 23, with UMBC coming out on top in both teams' America East opener. Taylor Wilson had 11 kills and four blocks.

Sophomore McKyla Brooks leads the America East with a .300 hitting percentage in 2016.

Sakowicz Sparking Seawolves
LeAnne Sakowicz has found numerous ways to contribute for Stony Brook in her freshman campaign. Sakowicz has the Seawolves' top dig performance of the year (18 vs. Fort Wayne), along with performances of 10 kills, 27 assists (twice) and five aces, all in separate matches.

Serrano Named to Stony Brook Hall of Fame
Seawolves alum Jessica Serrano-Plugues '00, the program's all-time leader in kills with 2,205, was inducted into the Stony Brook Athletics Rita and Kurt Eppenstein Hall of Fame Oct. 14.

Up Next: New Hampshire
Stony Brook will play just one match again next weekend, as the Seawolves host New Hampshire, Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. The match will be the annual Battle of the UGCs Night at Pritchard Gymnasium.
