Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team (7-5-2, 2-2 AE) heads to Albany (8-3-2, 3-0-1 AE) for a pivotal conference match on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m.
Scouting Albany
The Great Danes sit atop the conference standings with a 3-0-1 record and an 8-3-2 conference record. They are 5-0-1 in their last six contests, including a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Syracuse on Oct. 4. Albany is led by 2015 America East Striker of the Year Afonso Pinheiro, who is enjoying another big season with seven goals and two assists. Reigning America East Player of the Week Nico Solabarrieta enters the match with four goals and four assists after a goal in Albany's wins over New Hampshire and UMBC last week. The Great Danes are receiving 23 votes in the NSCAA Coaches' Poll and own an RPI ranking of 15.
Series Success
Stony Brook has owned the series with its SUNY-rival in recent years, going 7-0-2 in its last nine meetings. The Seawolves escaped with a 2-1 overtime victory at LaValle last season on the heels of Thibault Duval's (Liege, Belgium) game-winner. The last five match-ups between the schools have been decided by a goal or less.
