Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Seawolves take down Vermont, 2-0

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook women's soccer team made it four straight at home as it knocked off Vermont 2-0 at LaValle Stadium Thursday evening. Seniors Julie Johnstonbaugh (Neshanic Station, N.J.) and Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) each connect on goals to help lift Stony Brook over the Catamounts (6-5-1, 1-2-0AE).

Faherty's Reaction
"I'm really happy with the win, getting another shutout. We've been playing really well at home as of late and I think the consistency from everybody, especially our back line, they are the group that starts our attack and they keep the other team from scoring, so I'm really happy with their play on both sides of the ball."

Highlights
  • The Seawolves struck first, but not until the 65th minute as senior Hannah Groth (Cedarburg, Wisc.) sent in a corner and Johnstonbaugh was able to get a head on it and redirect it into the goal.
  • In the 86th minute Edwards was able to seal the victory for Stony Brook as she one-timed a cross from Johnstonbaugh, who got a quick relay from senior Amy Thompson (Luxembourg City, Luxembourg) to set up the scoring play.
  • Back-and-forth play was consistent throughout the night as both teams finished with eight shots apiece, but the Seawolves took the edge on target 5-2.
  • Sophomore keeper Cara Gallagher (Massapequa, N.Y.) notched her third straight shutout at home and finished with two saves.

Notes
  • The victory marks the fourth straight at home for the Seawolves and second straight in conference play. Stony Brook hasn't dropped a home match since the start of the season.
  • The Seawolves have tallied 10 goals in their last four home games, while allowing just one.
  • Stony Brook is now 4-1 on the year when scoring the first goal.
  • Seven different players took shots in the game, with four different players attempting on target.
