TOWSON, Md. – After a hot start to the game where the Stony Brook men's basketball team dominated early, it allowed Towson to go up by as many as 22 points in the first half, which proved to be too much to overcome as it fell to the Tigers at SECU Arena Friday evening, 88-63. The Seawolves fall to 0-4 on the year, while Towson moves to 3-2 thus far.
Boals' Reaction
"I told these guys that at some point you have to get up and respond," said head coach
Jeff Boals. "At some point somebody has to get to the free throw line and has to score, and you have to get a stop. I thought it was the worst half this year where we couldn't overcome something like that. Other games, we got down, we fought and battled and cut the lead. Early on, I thought we executed well. We hit shots, but then we stopped playing defense."
Highlights
- The Seawolves started the game on an 11-3 run and led for much of the first half. Redshirt freshman Akwasi Yeboah (Chigwell, England) scored eight of the team's first 11 points. He reached double figures before the first media timeout.
- The score was locked at 16-7 in Stony Brook's favor as both teams went dry from the field. Towson began to press the Seawolves and eventually strung together a 7-0 run from the foul line alone, positioning itself for its first lead of the night with 6:16 left in the first half.
- The Tigers closed out the first half on a 32-2 run and took a 50-28 lead into the break.
- Stony Brook battled back in the second half and was outscored by just three points in the period.
Notes
- This was the fourth consecutive game scoring in double figures for Yeboah and the third time this season junior Tyrell Sturdivant (Chester, Pa.) has reached double digits.
- Stony Brook's bench outscored the Tigers, 28-26.
