Seawolves grind out 45-42 road win at Hartford

Final Stats

Hartford, Conn. - Led by 12 points and eight rebounds from junior Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) and nine points and 10 rebounds from freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.), the Stony Brook women's basketball team (16-8, 8-3 AE) pulled out a 45-42 road victory at Hartford (9-14, 5-5 AE).

Turning Point

The Seawolves trailed from the 6:13 mark of the first quarter until the 6:10 mark of the third quarter when sophomore Aaliya Worley (Philadelphia, Pa.) connected om her third three-pointer of the game to tie the score at 24-24. The Seawolves would take their first lead of the ballgame with 9:04 left in the fourth quarter on a corner three from freshman Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.). Hartford had a chance to tie trailing by three with 2 seconds to play, but junior Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) sealed the victory by stepping in front of the inbounds pass.

Inside the Numbers

  • Stony Brook improved from 5-of-23 (21.7%) first-half shooting to 11-of-22 (50.0%) in the second half to finish 16-of-45 (35.6%) for the game.
  • After going 1-for-10 (10.0%) in the first half from downtown, the Seawolves managed to hit five of its 12 (41.7%) three-point tries in the second half.
  • Hartford was held to just 17-of-55 (30.9%) shooting from the field.
  • Stony Brook tied its season-high with six blocks, while Anyagaligbo tied her career-high with three. Sophomore Elizabeth Manner (Vienna, Va.) also tied her career-high in blocks with two.

  • In two games this season, the Seawolves held Hartford to 77 combined points, an average of 38.5 ppg.

  • Senior Brittany Snow (Shamong, N.J.) posted a career-high four assists to go along with six points and five rebounds.
