Stony Brook Welcomes Iona Wednesday night

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team (3-2) returns to the home confines of LaValle Stadium on Wednesday, Sep. 14, when it takes on the Iona Gaels (1-4) at 7 pm.

Scouting Iona 

Iona's lone win coming over Drexel with losses to UConn, Sacred Heart, Delaware and Fairleigh Dickinson. Stony Brook will have to pay close attention to the spanish duo of Marcos Nunez and Daniel Huertas. Nunez is the reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Year and has two goals and two assists this season. Huertas, last year's MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year, has two goals to date, after a nine-goal freshman campaign.

Defense Wins Games

Stony Brook has registered three shutouts in five games, all of which have resulted in victories. Last season, they had four clean sheets in 19 tries. The Seawolves enter Wednesday's contests riding a 188 minute streak of not allowing a goal, its longest since a 207 minute stretch from Aug. 28 - Sep. 4 of 2015. Stony Brook's opponents are only averaging 10.8 shots per game. In comparison, the Seawolves are attempting 14 shots per contest.

Getting the First Goal

Stony Brook is 3-0 when scoring the first goal this season and 0-2 when allowing the first tally. The Seawolves did manage to tie the game vs. Hofstra after allowing an early goal before dropping the contest 3-1.
