Stony Brook to clash with Sacred Heart on Saturday

Fairfield, Conn. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team (5-2-1) faces its final test before heading into conference play at Sacred Heart (2-4-1) on Saturday, Sep. 24, at 7pm.

After a slow start, Sacred Heart is 1-0-1 over its last two matches. Emerging forward Shaquille Saunchez has led the charge with four goals over the last three games for a team-high five goals on the season. The Pioneers have scored nine goals in seven games, but have struggled to keep the ball out of their own net. They are still looking for their first shutout of the 2016 season and have conceded 13 times.

Dynamic Duo

Stony Brook's two returning all-conference performers from 2015, junior Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) and sophomore Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway), linked up for both of Stony Brook's goals in its 2-0 win at Marist on Wednesday night. Erdei grabbed hold of the team lead and ranks fifth in the conference with four goals after his two-goal outing in Poughkeepsie. Gamwanya jumped to third in the conference in assists with a team-high four.

Road Warriors

The Seawolves are 4-1-1 away from LaValle Stadium this season, their highest win total away from home since 2012. Three of Stony Brook's five road games have ended in clean sheets for junior goalkeeper Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) and the Stony Brook defense.

On a Roll

Stony Brook's five-game unbeaten streak is its longest since 2012. A win over the Pioneers on Saturday would tie the streak from 2012 and be the longest since a seven-game unbeaten streak in 2009. Stony Brook has outscored its opponents 9-4 over the last five games.
