STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook men's soccer is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 3, hosting Sacred Heart in its final non-conference game of the 2017 season at 7 p.m. from LaValle Stadium.
Latest in Stony Brook Men's Soccer
- The Seawolves played to a pair of draws last weekend vs. George Washington and Binghamton. Stony Brook opener 2017 America East action with a scoreless tie vs. the Bearcats on Saturday, Sept. 30. Sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Braham (Cortlandt, N.Y.) recorded eight saves in total, earning his first collegiate shutout in the process.
- After going 5-2-3 in their first 10 contests of the season, the Seawolves are currently ranked No. 53 in Division I RPI. New Hampshire (No. 20) and UMBC (No. 48) are the only two conference teams with a higher RPI.
- Senior goalkeeper Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) has 13 career shutouts, which ranks No. 3 all-time for the Seawolves. McMahon needs just six more shutouts to break the program's all-time record.
- With a win over CCSU on Sept. 6, Stony Brook head coach Ryan Anatol surpassed the 50-win mark for his career as a Division I head coach. Anatol currently has 52 career victories in his time at Stony Brook.
- Stony Brook went 9-6-3 (4-2-1 America East) last season, earning the No. 1 seed in the 2016 America East Tournament. The Seawolves achieved their highest RPI ranking in program history (43) during the course of the year, and head into 2017 with nine returning starters.
- As a whole, the America East Conference finished with the nation's third-best RPI behind only the ACC and Big Ten in men's soccer. Seven total teams finished in the top 80 of the RPI, as America East men's soccer programs combined to go 53-23-12 (.670) against non-conference opponents.
- The Seawolves were selected to finish third in the 2017 America East Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Scouting Sacred Heart
- Sacred Heart is 3-6-0 so far in 2017, most recently playing to a 2-1 loss vs. Army West Point.
- Ermir Celaj and Oscar Curras have paced the program offensively, each recording two goals and one assist so far this year. Robert Strain has allowed 14 goals in nine games, recording a .745 save percentage in the process.
- Stony Brook is 12-3-5 all-time vs. Sacred Heart. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in Fairfield, Connecticut last season.
