WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –
Allyson Baner (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and
Christen Cahill (Pembroke, Mass.) both scored, as No. 5 Stony Brook women's soccer topped No. 4 Hartford in the quarterfinal round of the America East Women's Soccer Championship on Thursday night at Al-Marzook Field.
The Seawolves (9-10-0, 4-4-0 AEC) move on to the semifinal round of the postseason conference tournament, heading to No. 1 New Hampshire on Sunday, Oct. 29 for a 2 p.m. contest.
With the victory,
Brendan Faherty now has 100 career wins as a collegiate head coach. Faherty won 82 games over eight seasons at the University of New Haven, and has 18 wins over his first two years at the helm of the Seawolves' program.
Quoting Head Coach Brendan Faherty
"I thought we really put in a great performance for 90 minutes, the energy from the first whistle was great... I'm most excited that our team is still playing, and that we get the opportunity to train for two more days and play a really good New Hampshire team on Sunday."
On 100 wins: "It's pretty cool. I'd be lying if I said it meant nothing, because it does. I lost my first game as a collegiate head coach 13-0, so to still be in the business and still enjoy it as much as I do... To get 100 wins in a game like this that means so much to me and to our program, it's great."
