Seawolves squash Spiders behind a pair of Carbone to Bolden touchdowns


RICHMOND, VA. – Junior QB Joe Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) and senior WR Ray Bolden (Euless, Texas) connected for two touchdowns to lead the 22nd-ranked Stony Brook football team to a 27-24 victory over No. 17 Richmond on Saturday afternoon in a CAA Football battle at Robins Stadium.
 
Bolden collected a career-best 13 receptions and had 118 yards to go with his two scores, while Carbone finished with 19 completions for 161 yards for the Seawolves (6-2, 5-1 CAA Football).
 
Stony Brook took the lead for good over the Spiders (4-4, 2-3 CAA Football) on the first play of the second quarter when junior PK Nick Courtney (East Meadow, N.Y.) hit a 33-yard field goal, hi first of two on the afternoon.
 
Scoring
  • Stony Brook got on the board first when QB Joe Carbone hit WR Ray Bolden in the end zone from 10-yards away with 11:54 left in the first quarter. PK Nick Courtney's PAT was good. The drive was two plays for 12 yards and was set up after muffed punt recovered by DB Darin Peart.
  • Richmond answered on the ensuing drive with a touchdown pass from QB Kyle Lauletta to WR Dejon Brissett from 14 yards away. The PAT by Griffin Trau was good. The drive was 12 plays for 77 yards.
  • The Seawolves retook the lead when PK Nick Courtney drilled a 33-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter. The drive was 15 plays for 60 yards.
  • Stony Brook added to the lead when RB Donald Liotine scored from three yards away with 10:48 left in the second quarter. The PAT by PK Nick Courtney was good. The drive was seven plays for 52 yards.
  • The Spiders tacked on a field goal with 8:07 left in the second quarter. PK Griffin Trau hit a 22-yard kick. The drive was nine plays for 45 yards.
  • PK Nick Courtney added to Stony Brook's lead with a 22-yard field goal with 7:26 left in the third quarter. The kick capped a 11-play, 53-yard drive.
  • Richmond edged closer with a five-yard touchdown pass from QB Kyle Lauletta to WR Dejon Brissett with 0:30 left in the third quarter. The PAT by PK Grffin Trau was good. The drive was seven plays for 37 yards.
  • The Seawolves regained a 10-point lead when QB Joe Carbone found WR Ray Bolden in the end zone with a 22-yard pass with 12:23 left in the fourth quarter. PK Nick Courtney's PAT was good. The drive was eight plays for 73 yards.
  • The Spiders tacked on a late touchdown when QB Kyle Lauletta found WR Cortelle Simpson from 20-yards away. The PAT by Griffin Trau was good. The drive was 12 plays for 90 yards.
