UNIVERSITY PARK, P.A. – Stony Brook women's soccer fell at No. 10 Penn State, 7-0, on Friday night at Jeffrey Field in the first round of the 2017 Women's Soccer NCAA Tournament.
With the loss, the Seawolves' historic 2017 season comes to a close. Stony Brook won 11 games – its most since 2013 – during head coach
Brendan Faherty's second season with the program. Stony Brook won nine of its final 13 contests prior to NCAA Tournament play, winning the America East Championship for the second time in program history.
Quoting Head Coach Brendan Faherty
"When the draw was made, we knew it was going to be a really tough game for us. Back in the preseason, Penn State was one of the teams I picked to be in the Final Four, so we knew it was going to be a tough game. I don't believe in moral victories, but I do think we had a very good year. [Our players] should feel great about what they accomplished this season. We spoke a lot about raising the bar as a program this year, I think we did just that."
