STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's basketball is back in action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Central Connecticut State University at Island Federal Credit Union Arena at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out
• Stony Brook women's basketball got back on track on Thursday night at Island Federal Credit Union Arena, topping Iona, 63-46, in non-conference action.
• With the win, the Seawolves move to 6-4 so far in 2017-18.
• Stony Brook shot 44.6 percent (25-for-56) in the win, knocking down 6-of-16 3-point attempts
Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) led the way for Stony Brook, tallying 15 points, five rebounds and five assists in the win. The junior transfer shot 6-of-9 from the floor, nailing three 3-point shots.
Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) added 13 points of her own to go along with three rebounds and three assists. The junior has recorded double-digit point totals in each of her last five contests.

Head Coach Caroline McCombs
Caroline McCombs is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Stony Brook women's basketball team in 2017-18, as the Seawolves' head coach has risen among the winningest coaches in Stony Brook's Division I era.
• With five victories to begin the 2017-18 season, McCombs has now won 52 games on Long Island – which ranks second among Stony Brook coaches in the Division I era. McCombs guided the Seawolves' program to 17 wins in 2014-15, 17 victories in 2015-16, and 12 wins this year.

Scouting Central Connecticut State
• The Blue Devils are 0-9 in 2017-18, most recently falling vs. Yale on Dec. 9.
• Kiana Patterson (12.8 points) and Andi Lydon (11.9 points, 6.0 rebounds) have paced CCSU offensively so far. 
• Stony Brook is 2-1 all-time vs. CCSU. The Seawolves topped the Blue Devils, 64-59, the last time the two programs met on Dec. 11, 2016.

Non-Conference Success
Stony Brook is 11-5 in its last 16 non-conference contests, dating back to Dec. 11, 2016.

Defend the Island
Stony Brook is 31-16 in games at Island Federal Credit Union Arena over the last four season under head coach Caroline McCombs. The Seawolves have gone 4-1 at home so far in 2017-18, outscoring opponents 353-257.

Clark on the Glass
Junior transfer Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) is currently averaging 9.9 rebounds per contest, which ranks No. 2 in the America East and No. 38 nationally. Clark grabbed 23 rebounds on Dec. 6 vs. Yale, the third-highest single-game rebound total for any player in the country this season.

Johnson from Distance
Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) has drained 29 3-point field goals so far in 10 games for the Seawolves, which ranks No. 1 in the America East and No. 37 nationally.

Daunting Defense
Stony Brook has allowed just 55.4 points per contest, which ranks No. 27 in the nation and best in the America East. The program has forced opponents to shoot just 24.7 percent from beyond the arc, which checks in at No. 22 nationally and best in the America East. Opponents have shot just 37.3 percent from the floor vs. the Seawolves.

Preseason Poll
The Seawolves have been selected to finish No. 8 in the 2017-18 America East Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Oct. 19, 2017. Stony Brook received 16 total votes in the poll. New Hampshire was voted as the unanimous league favorite, garnering 64 total votes.
