Seawolves' season comes to a close at JMU in second round of FCS Playoffs


HARRISONBURG, VA. – The Stony Brook football team's season came to an end of Saturday afternoon in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Football Championship with a 26-7 loss at No. 1 seeded and top ranked James Madison in Bridgeforth Stadium.
 
The Seawolves (10-3, 7-1 CAA Football) reached the FCS Playoffs with a 9-2 regular season and equaled the most wins in school history. The Dukes (12-0, 8-0 CAA Football) advanced to next week's quarterfinal and moved one step closer to defending their national title.
 
Scoring
  • JMU jumped on the board early when they scored on the opening drive of the game when QB Bryan Schor hit RB Trai Sharp with a five-yard pass. The PAT was missed to the left. The drive was eight plays for 74 yards.
  • JMU added to its first half lead with a 37-yard field goal by PK Ethan Ratke with 9:19 left in the second quarter. The drive was four plays for seven yards.
  • The Dukes tacked on another touchdown when QB Bryan Schor found WR Terrence Alls in the end zone with a one-yard pass late in the second quarter. The PAT by PK Ethan Ratke was good. The drive was six plays for 23 yards.
  • A field goal by JMU's PK Ethan Ratke with 0:12 remaining in the first half added to the Dukes' lead. The drive was seven plays for 22 yards.
  • JMU added to its lead when RB Taylor Woods scored from one yard out on the first play of the fourth quarter. The PAT by Ethan Ratke was good. The drive was eight plays for 53 yards.
  • Stony Brook got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when QB Joe Carbone and WR Harrison Jackson connected on a 37-yard pass. The PAT by PK Nick Courtney was good. The drive was seven plays for 68 yards.

  • Stony Brook gained 311 yards of total offense on 69 plays. JMU had 304 yards of total offense on 73 plays.

Notes
  • QB Joe Carbone tossed his 23rd touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter when he found WR Harrison Jackson on a 37-yard strike. It marked Carbone's 28th touchdown pass of his career.
  • WR Harrison Jackson pulled down his seventh touchdown of the season and of his Stony Brook career with his fourth quarter score.
  • WR Harrison Jackson recorded his third100-yard receiving game of his career with seven receptions for a career-high 124 yards on Saturday.
  • With QB Joe Carbone's 23rd touchdown of the season, the junior passed Timm Schroeder (1994) for third-place in passing touchdowns in single season at Stony Brook.
  • QB Joe Carbone also finished the season with 2,470 Yards, the second most in a single season at Stony Brook, behind T.J. Moriarty's 2495 yards in 2004.
  • Senior RB Stacey Bedell finished his career at Stony Brook with 562 carries (third most in school history), 2954 yards (third most in school history) and 31 touchdowns (second most in school history).
  • Senior DB Darin Peart completed his career with a streak of 34 consecutive starts.
  • OL Jackson Miller and LBs Shayne Lawless and Noah McGinty extended their start streaks to 23 straight games.
  • Captains for today's game were RB Stacey Bedell, TE Dennis Lestrange and WR Ray Bolden.
