STATESBORO, GA – Stony Brook women's basketball won its third-straight contest on Thursday afternoon on the road at Hanner Fieldhouse, topping Georgia Southern, 68-49, in non-conference play.
With the win, the Seawolves improve to 8-4 overall in 2017-18.

Highlights
- Stony Brook shot 42.3 percent (22-for-52) from the floor in the road win, knocking down eight 3-pointers. The Seawolves made a season-high 16 free throws, as well.
- The Seawolves' defense recorded nine steals, forcing Georgia Southern to turn the ball over 17 times. Stony Brook out-rebounded the Eagles 36-26.
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) scored a game-high 20 points, just one point shy of her career-best. Matthews added seven rebounds and three assists in the winning effort, going 8-of-13 (4-of-7 from 3-point range).
- Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) added 18 points, three rebounds and three assists of her own, sinking four 3-pointers in 25 minutes of action.
- Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J) chipped in with nine points and six rebounds of her own, while India Pagan (New London, Conn.) recorded six points and five rebounds.
Notes
- The Seawolves opened up action on a 7-0 run. Pagan scored the game's first bucket in the paint, then Johnson knocked down a pair of free throw's before sinking her first three of the game to give Stony Brook the early edge.
- Johnson knocked down another deep 3-point field goal with just four seconds left in the second quarter, sending the Seawolves into the break with an 11-point lead (31-20). Matthews led the way offensively in the first half, pouring in 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
- Stony Brook shot 11-of-26 in the second half of action, including a 6-for-12 performance in the fourth quarter to help seal the non-conference victory.
