Game Recap: Softball |

Stony Brook falls on second day of Madeira Beach Tournament

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Stony Brook softball team was unable to keep things going on day two of the Madeira Beach Tournament. The Seawolves fell to Harvard in its first game of the day and dropped its second game to Kent State at the Madeira Beach Complex Saturday night.

Game 1: Harvard 8, Stony Brook 0
  • The Seawolves seemed to get out to a good start, but stranded three runners in the bottom of the first inning. With two runners on and just one out in the second inning, the Seawolves were unable to get on the board first after hitting into a double play to end the inning.
  • Harvard put up three runs in the third, as a double to center brought in two runners. Stony Brook's second error of the inning allowed a third run to score before a line drive to third ended the third.
  • Sophomore Lindsey Hughes (San Dimas, Calif.) replaced starter junior Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) in the fourth and it was a quick 1-2-3 inning.
  • Hughes got the Seawolves through the fifth with no change in score, but after giving up two singles to start the sixth, freshman Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) entered the game. Another single loaded the bases and a hit batter made it a 4-0 game. Harvard was able to knock in two more runs in the sixth and added another two in the seventh.

Game 2: Kent State 11, Stony Brook 3
  • Kent State got on the board early after a double to left center put a runner on, and a home run in the next at bat gave the Flashes a 2-0 lead in the first.
  • An error by the Seawolves in third inning allowed another run to score and starter senior Alex Petrolia (Henderson, Nev.) was replaced by Neales with one out. Kent State was able to tack on three more runs, but left three runners on.
  • Stony Brook got things going in the bottom of the third as sophomore Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) sent one out to left center for a double and advanced to third on a pass ball. Sophomore Ally Dabroski (Cedar Grove, N.J.) knocked a single into center field to get on base and send Corr home for the Seawolves' first run of the day.
  • Senior Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) made her way around the bases after reaching on a fielder's choice after freshman Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) hit a single to second base. Rahrich singled to left field to bring Shue home and move Hering around the bases. Sophomore Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) grounded out in the next at bat, but picked up the RBI as Hering made it a 6-3 game.
  • The Flashes responded in the top of the fourth with three more runs and tacked on two more in the seventh.
