Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stony Brook knocks off Binghamton, 70-60, in America East quarterfinals

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's basketball team advanced to the America East Playoff semifinals Wednesday night with a 70-60 win over Binghamton at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. This is the eighth straight season the Seawolves have advanced out of the first round of the playoffs as they move to 18-12 on the year. Binghamton finishes the 2017 season at 12-20.

Boals' Reaction
"I'm really proud of our effort from start to finish," said head coach Jeff Boals. "We wanted to get off to a great start and the biggest thing for us was we wanted to play hard and compete. Getting out to a big lead was really good for us, we shot the ball really well, and I thought our bench was phenomenal all game long."

Highlights
  • Senior Lucas Woodhouse (Greenlawn, N.Y.) got the Seawolves going with an early three. He hit two more from beyond the mark to go along with dunks from juniors Roland Nyama (Frankfurt, Germany) and Junior Saintel (Mays Landing, N.J.) that helped Stony Brook jump out to a 13-5 lead and force a Binghamton timeout before the first media.
  • The Seawolves continued to push, going on a 15-1 run to get the lead to 21 with just over eight minutes remaining until the break.
  • Stony Brook notched its largest halftime lead of the season, up 16 on Binghamton behind a 15-point half from Woodhouse and 12-point half from redshirt freshman Akwasi Yeboah (Chigwell, England).
  • It was Woodhouse again that sparked the Seawolves to begin the new half, draining his fourth three of the night in the opening minute of play.
  • A 9-0 run for the Bearcats beginning with just over eight minutes remaining got them back within single digits as a Marlon Beck II three made it an 8-point game, 54-46.
  • A lull in scoring saw Stony Brook's last field goal of the game come with 5:32 left to play and allowed Binghamton to see-saw the difference in-and-out of single digits.
  • The Bearcats got as close as seven with under a minute remaining after a pair of free throws from Timmy Rose, but they were forced to foul and the Seawolves connected on all six attempts from the line in the closing seconds of the game.
Notes
  • It was a career day for Yeboah as he finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds, going 9-of-10 from the free throw line, for his second double-double of the year.
  • After being limited in the final two games of the regular season, Woodhouse played nearly the entire game as he returned to double figures, notching his eighth 20-plus point game of the season.
  • This was the first time this season the Seawolves have had two players score 20-plus points in a game.
  • The Seawolves' bench outscored Binghamton's bench 37-8 in the game, all eight points coming in the second half.
  • Stony Brook limited itself to 10-or-fewer turnovers for the 20th time this season.
  • The Seawolves made double-digit threes for the 12th time this year.
