STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior C
David Real (Chandler, Ariz.) and freshman 3B
Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) were among the many stars of Stony Brook baseball's sweep of a double header over visiting LIU Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.
Real's bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the only run of game two in a 1-0 Seawolves' (4-9) victory, while Grande helped cap a comeback in game one with a single to right field in the eight inning that scored the tying and go ahead runs in the 15-11 win.
Junior RHP
Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) earned the win in game two. He entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth, got out the jam with one of his six strikeouts, and allowed just two hits the rest of the way. Junior LHP
Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Ma.) recorded the win in game one. He went 3.2 innings and allowed just one run on one hit.
Senior 1B/RF
Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) collected six hits, scored three runs and drove in three on the afternoon, including a four-hit performance in game one.
Game One Turning Point
Stony Brook entered the eighth inning trailing 11-8, but the Seawolves plated seven runs on five hits, including
Grande's two-run single and a two-run single by freshman DH
Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.).
Game Two Turning Point
Seawolves' starting pitcher, freshman
Sam Turcotte (Toronto, Ontario) tossed three hitless innings of work, but walked the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.
Pinto entered the game and struck out the first batter he faced to end the threat and preserve the scoreless game.
Quoting Associate Head Coach Joe Pennucci
"In the first game we did a really good job of being resilient and coming back and scoring runs when we needed to. In the second game we played good defense and pitched really well and were able to get the run across in the seventh inning."
