Rivera drives in four runs, but softball drops a pair of games at Maine

ORONO, Maine – Stony Brook softball dropped a pair of games vs. Maine on Saturday afternoon at Kessock Field in the America East Conference's first-ever softball games televised on ESPN3/Watch ESPN. The Seawolves dropped Game 1 by the final score of 4-3, then fell in Game 2, 3-2.
 
Maine won both games on a walkoff hit. With the two losses, Stony Brook falls to 5-4 in America East Conference play.

Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) drove in four of the Seawolves' five runs scored on the day, including a three-run home run in the first inning of Game 1. Allyssa Malony (Runnemede, N.J.), Sami Duffy (Carmel, N.Y.), Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) and Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) all tallied two hits on the day, as well.

Game 1: Maine 4, Stony Brook 3
  • Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) drove in all three runs for the Seawolves, blasting a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to give Stony Brook an early advantage. The home run is the sophomore catcher's fourth of the season.
  • Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) went all 6.2 innings in the circle, giving up 12 hits and four earned runs to go along with two strikeouts.
  • Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) chipped in with a 2-for-3 effort, giving her 16 hits so far in 2017.
 Game 2: Maine 3, Stony Brook 2
  • Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) singled in the top of the third inning, driving in the Seawolves' first run of the game.
  • Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) added two hits and a run scored.
  • Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) went the first 3.0 innings in the circle, giving up three hits and two runs with one strike out. Lindsey Hughes (San Dimas, Calif.) worked the next 4.0 innings out of relief, giving up two hits and no runs with five strikeouts.

Stony Brook and Maine are back it tomorrow (Sunday, April 15), playing the third and final game of the series at 11 a.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN3/Watch ESPN.
