Seawolves' offense tallies 10 hits on Tuesday en route to win vs. Iona

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook softball scored seven runs on 10 hits vs. Iona on Tuesday afternoon, topping the Gaels at University Field, 7-4.
 
Freshman Allyssa Malony (Runnemede, N.J.) led the offensive charge for the Seawolves, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Junior Ileana Torres (Debary, Fla.) went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's and two runs scored, as well.
 
Lindsey Hughes (San Dimas, Calif.) tossed a complete game in the circle for Stony Brook, going all 7.0 innings while earning her third win of the season.
 
Quoting Head Coach Megan T. Bryant
"We did a lot of good things today. We pitched it well, were able to put some things together offensively. For the most part, our defense was solid. Overall, I thought it was a good effort for us."
 
Notes
  • Allyssa Malony (Runnemede, N.J.) extended her hitting streak to four games. During that span, she's gone 6-for-9 at the plate.
  • Ileana Torres (Debary, Fla.)'s two-hit day is her first of the 2017 season. She now has six hits in 2017.
  • Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) chipped in with a 2-for-3 effort, driving in a run and scoring once. The freshman has a hit in four of her last six contests.
  • Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) drove in two runs. She now has a team-high 23 RBI's in 30 games played.
  • Lindsey Hughes (San Dimas, Calif.) worked seven innings for the first time this season. Her five strikeouts in the circle ties her single-game high for the year.

The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday, April 19, traveling to Hofstra for a 4 p.m. start.
