Malony homers, all nine starters hit safely as softball tops Hartford on Wednesday

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook softball recorded 12 hits on Wednesday afternoon at University Field, topping Hartford, 8-0, in six innings. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 12-25 (7-7 AEC) in 2017.
 
All nine starters had a hit for Stony Brook, led by two-hit performances at the plate from freshman Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.), senior Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) and sophomore Ally Dabroski (Cedar Grove, N.J.). Shue had 2 RBI's, while Dabroski drove in one run. 

Freshman Allyssa Malony (Runnemede, N.J.) also chipped in with a home run and two RBI's.
 
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) tossed her eighth complete game of the season in the win, going 6.0 innings while giving up just six hits and no runs with four strikeouts.
 
Quoting Head Coach Megan T. Bryant
"I thought we were good in all facets of the game today. Mel was spinning the ball well, we put some quality at-bats together and we made the plays we needed to make. It's good to take the series."

Notes
  • After tossing six more scoreless innings, freshman Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) now owns a 2.63 ERA in 117.2 innings pitched. Rahrich has given up just three earned runs in her last 20 innings pitched.
  • Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) now has her batting average up to .331 in 2017, and has 14 multi-hit games.
  • The home run is freshman Allyssa Malony's (Runnemede, N.J.) third of the season, and she has now has eight RBI's.
  • Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) made a spectacular diving catch to end the top half of the first inning in right field, and added a hit from the No. 2 spot for the Seawolves. She now has a five-game hitting streak
  • Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.), Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) and Sami Duffy (Carmel, N.Y.) all tallied a hit and an RBI at the plate.
On Deck
Stony Brook is back in action on Friday, April 28, traveling to Fairleigh Dickinson for a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m.
