STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook softball split a non-conference doubleheader at Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday afternoon, winning Game 1 and losing Game 2. The Seawolves (13-26, 7-7 AEC) tallied 11 runs in Game 1 to come away with a 11-4 victory, then fell to the Knights in Game 2, 6-0.
Freshman duo
Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) and
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) each had three hits in total for the day, while
Ileana Torres (Debary, Fla.) tallied two hits and two RBI's from the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
Quoting Head Coach Megan T. Bryant
"We came out with a great offensive approach in Game 1 and supported that with solid defense. Game 2 we put too many balls in the air and didn't put any real pressure on their defense."
Game 1: Stony Brook 11, Fairleigh Dickinson 4
- The Seawolves scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to help break the game open.
- Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) went 3-for-4 in the win with a double and two singles.
- Sami Duffy (Carmel, N.Y.) had two hits and two runs.
- Ileana Torres (Debary, Fla.) added a hit, two RBI's and a run.
- Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) and Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Hering had one RBI and one run scored, while Rahrich scored twice.
- Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) and Jordyn Nowakowski (San Diego, Calif.) both added on hit and one RBI.
- Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) threw 5.0 innings in the circle, earning her ninth win of the season. She gave up just four runs on six hits, striking out two in the process. Lindsey Hughes (San Dimas, Calif.) tossed the last 2.0 innings, giving up just one hit and no runs to close the game out.
