Honeyman's walk-off single advances Stony Brook in America East Tournament

LOWELL, MA. – For the second straight year, junior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) proved to be the hero for the Stony Brook baseball team in game one of the America East Tournament after he provided the walk-off hit to give the third-seeded Seawolves a 4-3 victory over No. 6 seed Hartford at LeLacheur Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Honeyman, who won game one last season with a home run in the ninth inning, singled home sophomore RF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) from third in the bottom of the 10th inning on Wednesday.

The Seawolves (26-24) advanced to play second-seeded UMBC on Thursday. Hartford (20-29) dropped to the losers bracket and faced Maine on Wednesday night in the first elimination game of the tournament.

Freshman DH Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) also provided some heroism with a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh inning to give Stony Brook a 3-2 lead.

Junior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) picked up the win, his fifth of the season, after he tossed 3.0 innings of work and allowed just one run on one hit with four strikeouts. Freshman RHP Brian Herrmann (Northport, N.Y.) went 7.0 innings and allowed just two runs on three hits in the no-decision.

Turning Point
After Stony Brook's first two batters were retired in the bottom of the 10th inning, Resk and junior LF Andruw Gazzola (Corman, N.Y.) both singled before Honeyman sent a 2-2 pitch into right center field that scored Resk with the winning run.

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"That was a great college baseball game. I can't say enough about Hartford and how hard they played and so did our guys. That made for a great game. Their (Hartford) starting pitcher was terrific and so was ours. It was kind of a throwback game. It was great to be a part it and great to be on the winning side."

"This is two years in a row that Bobby (Honeyman) has come out and got the game-winning hit in the first game of the tournament so I was happy to see him coming up in that situation."
