STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook men's soccer opens the 2017 season with a pair of non-conference games at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves will host Canisius on Friday, Aug. 25 (1 p.m.), then square off with Army on Monday, Aug. 28 (7 p.m.).
Latest in Stony Brook Men's Soccer
- Stony Brook went 9-6-3 (4-2-1 America East) last season, earning the No. 1 seed in the 2016 America East Tournament. The Seawolves achieved their highest RPI ranking in program history (43) during the course of the year, and head into 2017 with nine returning starters.
- As a whole, the America East Conference finished with the nation's third-best RPI behind only the ACC and Big Ten in men's soccer. Seven total teams finished in the top 80 of the RPI, as America East men's soccer programs combined to go 53-23-12 (.670) against non-conference opponents.
- The Seawolves were selected to finish third in the 2017 America East Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Scouting Canisius
- Canisius has been selected to finish sixth in the MAAC in the conference's preseason poll, and junior midfielder Melvin Blair was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
- The Golden Griffins went 9-8-3 in 2016, losing in the MAAC Semifinals to Quinnipiac.
Scouting Army
- Army went 9-8-2 in 2016, and returns its top scorer, Rex Epps (11 goals), from a season ago.
- The program opens up its 2017 slate on Friday, hosting San Diego State before traveling to Stony Brook.
