HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook volleyball team made it a three-win weekend at the Colgate Invitational with a 3-1 win over Cornell Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves move to 8-6 on the year after the victory.

"This was a big weekend for our team," said head coach
Kristin Belzung. "We executed the game plan today and also took care of some special situation defensive points, which was fun to watch as a coaching staff. Our team learned how to compete and I'm proud of them for earning three wins this weekend."
Set-By-Set
- Cornell held the lead in the early goings of the opening set, but a kill by sophomore
Maria Poole (Stavanger, Norway) tied things up at 21. Redshirt junior
Emily Costello (Webster, N.Y.) added another kill to keep the Seawolves alive and tied the set at 25-all. Cornell rallied for three straight points to take the 28-26 win.
- Stony Brook stole the momentum in the second set, jumping out to an early lead and eventually going up 15-9 to force a Cornell timeout. The Seawolves continued to cruise and eventually evened the match with a 25-14 win.
- Cornell did not back down after falling in the second set and started the third with five straight points. A kill by sophomore
Jordan Gels (Lewis Center, Ohio) helped fuel the Stony Brook comeback, tying things up at nine-all. Senior Cydney Bowman (Lake Mary, Fla.) added a kill band got up for the block on the very next rally to give Stony Brook its first lead of the set, 11-10. The Seawolves made it 5-1 run to go up 14-11 and continued to pull away to claim a 25-18 win in the third.
- Stony Brook controlled the tempo early on in the fourth set and used a block, followed by back-to-back kills to take a 13-8 lead. Cornell was able to get back within one, 16-15, but the Seawolves did not let go of the lead and eventually sealed the victory with a 25-22 win.
-- Costello led the Seawolves in kills through all three matches on the weekend, tallying 14 against Cornell.
-- Sophomore LeAnne Sakowicz (Wauconda, Ill.) finished the match with 47 assists, making it three straight matches with her total over the 40 mark.
-- Stony Brook continued it's defensive dominance, nearing a season best with 10 blocks in the match.
