STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook men's soccer hosts a pair of games at LaValle Stadium this week. The Seawolves will square off with George Washington on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., then host Binghamton in the 2017 America East opener on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
Latest in Stony Brook Men's Soccer
- The Seawolves most recently fell in overtime vs. No. 16 Georgetown, 3-2, on Sept. 20. Both Akeem Morris (Elmont, N.Y.) and Eric McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) scored a first-half goal for the Seawolves' in the loss.
- Stony Brook is one of four conference teams currently with fives wins, joining New Hampshire, Albany and UMBC.
- Senior goalkeeper Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) has 13 career shutouts, which ranks No. 3 all-time for the Seawolves. McMahon needs just six more shutouts to break the program's all-time record. McMahon ranks No. 1 in the America East conference in saves (33) and save percentage (4.57) so far this season.
- With a win over CCSU on Sept. 6, Stony Brook head coach Ryan Anatol surpassed the 50-win mark for his career as a Division I head coach. Anatol currently has 52 career victories in his time at Stony Brook.
- Stony Brook went 9-6-3 (4-2-1 America East) last season, earning the No. 1 seed in the 2016 America East Tournament. The Seawolves achieved their highest RPI ranking in program history (43) during the course of the year, and head into 2017 with nine returning starters.
- As a whole, the America East Conference finished with the nation's third-best RPI behind only the ACC and Big Ten in men's soccer. Seven total teams finished in the top 80 of the RPI, as America East men's soccer programs combined to go 53-23-12 (.670) against non-conference opponents.
- The Seawolves were selected to finish third in the 2017 America East Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Scouting George Washington
- George Washington is 3-4-1 so far in 2017, most recently topping NJIT, 1-0, at home.
- Oscar Haynes Brown and Brady O'Connor have paced GW offensively, as each have recorded three goals to date.
- Tuesday night's meeting will be the first all-time contest between the two programs.
Scouting Binghamton
- Binghamton is 3-4-1 entering the new week, topping Canisius 5-1 last Saturday on the road.
- Nikos Psarras has a team-high six goals, while Alejandro Cubillo has earned all three of the team's victory in net.
- The Seawolves are 12-23-5 all-time vs. Binghamton, playing to a scoreless tie on Oct. 29, 2016 in the two team's last meeting.
