Seawolves Set to Battle Hartford

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team will look to pick up its fifth conference victory of the season, traveling to Hartford for its penultimate contest of the regular season. The game will take place on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. from Al-Marzook Field.

Seawolves Notes
  • Stony Brook comes into the contest at 7-5-2 (4-1-0 AE) after dropping its first conference game of the season, 2-1 to Vermont on Oct. 20.
  • The Seawolves have already clinched a spot in the 2018 America East Tournament. 
  • Senior Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) leads the Seawolves with five goals on the season. He's been named America East Offensive Player of the Week two times this year.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Christian Miesch (Brig, Switzerland) has started all but one contests in net for Stony Brook this season, boasting a .754 save percentage.
  • With the Seawolves' win over then-No. 21 UMass Lowell on Sept. 28, head coach Ryan Anatol became the winningest head coach in Stony Brook men's soccer division 1 history.
  • The Seawolves are 7-7-6 all-time against Hartford.
  • This will be Stony Brook's final regular season road game. They will wrap-up regular season play on Oct. 31 against UMBC.
  • The Seawolves were tabbed sixth in the America East preseason poll, just ahead of Hartford (12 points) and Binghamton (11 points). UMass Lowell (44 points), New Hampshire (42 points) and Albany (40 points) finished atop the poll heading into the 2018 season.
Scouting Hartford
  • The Hawks enter Friday night's contest at 1-8-5 (1-3-1 AE) this season, most recently drawing New Hampshire, 1-1 on Oct. 20.
  • Senior midfielder Xahne Reid is the Hawks' leading scorer, notching three goals so far this year. His 36 shots have accounted for 31% of Hartford's team total.
  • Hawks' goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton has played every minute in net this season. The junior netminder ranks second in the conference with 4 saves per game.
  • Hartford is coached by Tom Poitras, who is in his eighth season at the helm. Poitras owns the 29th-best career win percentage among active division 1 coaches (.607).
  • The Hawks last battled Stony Brook last season, playing to a 1-1 draw.
  • 2017 saw Hartford finish with a 5-10-3 record as it missed the postseason.
  • Friday night's contest will be the Hawks' Senior Night.
