DURHAM, N.H. – Stony Brook women's basketball earned a big conference victory on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium, topping New Hampshire by the final score of 62-56.
With the victory, the Seawolves improve to 17-11 (9-6 AE) so far in 2017-18 and move into fourth place in the America East standings with just one week left in the regular season. The program has now won 9 of their last 12 contests in America East play, and four-straight for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

"I thought we really turned up our defensive intensity in the second half. Our players responded after halftime and set the tone for the rest of the game. We had some huge contributions from our bench today, and the win was a total team effort."
Highlights
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) and Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) both recorded 15 points in the win to lead the way.
- Johnson scored 10 of her 15 points in the second half, shooting 6-for-18 from the field and knocking down three 3-pointers on the afternoon. The junior added six assists in the win.
- Matthews went 5-of-9 from the floor, and 3-for-7 from distance. She also tallied a season-best five assists.
- India Pagan (New London, Conn.) added 10 points and four rebounds, shooting 5-of-6 from the floor.
- Oksana Gouchie-Provencher (Markham, Ontario) recorded a career-high eight points, going 4-for-5 from the field.
- Senior Aaliyah Worley (Philadelphia, PA) added seven points and four rebounds.
Notes
- Gouchie Provencher, Matthews and Pagan all had eight points in the first half of action, as the trio combined to go 10-for-15 from the floor prior to the break in action.
- Stony Brook shot 23-of-48 (47.9 percent) from the floor. The Seawolves shot 11-for-22 in the second half, including a 6-for-11 clip in the fourth quarter alone.
- The Seawolves outrebounded UNH 31-29, improving to 13-0 so far this season when outrebounding opponents.
- Stony Brook is now 54-for-68 from the free throw line over its last four contests.
