FORT MYERS, FLA. – The Stony Brook softball team dropped both games in day two of the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational; falling to UConn and Southern Illinois.

"Bit of a tough day for us, but ne where should have been 1-1. SIU is certainly one of the best teams we will face all season, and we did fight harder and make better adjustments than we did in game one. It's on to tomorrow and putting it all together to finish strong," said head coach

Game 1: UConn 2, Stony Brook 1
- The Huskies got on the board first in the bottom of the first. Olivia Sappington started the inning with a walk then advanced to third on back to back passed balls. Hollis Wivell walked and then stole second allowing Sappington to score on the throw down to second.
- In the bottom of the second Stony Brook made a pitching change substituting Lindsay Hughes (San Dimas, Calif.) in for Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.)
- The Seawolves responded in the top of the third. When Nicole McCarvill (Clifton Park, N.Y.) bunted for a base hit to get things going, then advanced to second on a single by Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) Ileana Torres (Debary, Fla.) singled to right field advancing McCarvill and Hering. Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score McCarvill.
- After three quick innings for both teams, UConn added one more run in the bottom of the fifth as Hollis Wivell singled to left field and advanced on a walk by Devon Casazza. Wivell and Casazza both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Emma Stanley. Carli Culter grounded out to short stop but was able to score Wivell.
Game 2: Southern Illinois University 6, Stony Brook 1
- Southern Illinois got off to a quick start scoring two run in the first. Susie Baranski started off the game with a single and then scored on a one out double by Katelyn Massa. Jenny Jasen reached on an error advancing Massa to third. Massa then scored on a single to left field by Sydney Jones.
- The Salukis added two more in the second inning. Maris Boelens had a one out single up the middle and advanced to second on a single by Baranski. Massa's had a two out double which scored both Boelens and Baranski to give the Souther Illinois a 4-0 lead.
- The Seawolves got one on the board in the bottom of the third. Chelsea Evans (Merced, Calif.) walked to start the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Rahrich then singled to right field allowing Evans to score from second.
- Southern Illinois would tack on one more run in the fifth and one in the sixth.
- Stony Brook fought back in the bottom of the seventh. Chelsea Evans and Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) strung together back to back singles with two outs before Jourdin Hering singled to left field scoring Evans from second.

The Seawolves remain at Fort Myers for one more game on Sunday, Feb. 25. They will take on Wright State for the second time in the tournament at 9:30 a.m.
