STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team was unable to get by a quick-shooting Hofstra team, falling 14-2 at LaValle Stadium Tuesday night. The Seawolves drop to 0-4 on the year, while the Pride move to 1-2.
Nagle's Reaction
"This was a disappointing night for us, but I still believe in our guys and the character of this team," said head coach
Jim Nagle. "It's a long season, it's only February, and we have no choice but to move forward from here."
Highlights
- Hofstra controlled the momentum right away, jumping out to a 3-0 lead and outshooting the Seawolves 15-3 in the first quarter.
- Sophomore
Michael Bollinger (Holbrook, N.Y.), who made his first start of the season in goal, gave Stony Brook a spark at the end of the opening period as he came up with a big save in the closing seconds.
- The Seawolves were able to slow the Pride in the second quarter and eventually got on the board when sophomore
Chris Pickel, Jr., (Bayport, N.Y.) fired in a pass from
Wayne White (Huntington, N.Y.). Stony Brook out-shot Hofstra 11-8 in the period, but trailed 5-1 at the break.
- Pickel, Jr., struck again in the opening minutes of the new half, this time putting away a pass from freshman
Jack Walsh (Miller Place, N.Y.).
- Hofstra continued to dominate at the face-off X the rest of the way, limiting the Seawolves' possessions.
Notes
- Pickel has scored in every game game this season.
- Bollinger suffered his first decision of the year, finishing with seven saves in 52 minutes. Senior
