STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's basketball earned its sixth conference victory of the year on Thursday night at Costello Athletic Center, topping UMass Lowell by the final score of 63-60. With the win, Stony Brook improves to 14-11 (6-6 AE) so far in 2017-18.
Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season in the win, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds.

"It was great to come out on top in a close road battle. UMass Lowell caused a lot of problems on the boards, and we didn't have an answer for Kayla Gibbs tonight. Thankfully, we made the key plays at the end of the game to close it out."
Highlights
- The Seawolves shot 22-for-52 from the floor in total (3-for-16 from 3-point range), assisting on 13 baskets.
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) led the way for Stony Brook with 15 total points, going 6-for-13 from the floor. The junior now has double-digit point totals in 19 of 26 games this year.
- Senior Aaliyah Worley (Philadelphia, PA) added 10 points, her second-straight game of 10 points or more.
- Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) had six points, a season-best 10 rebounds and six assists for Stony Brook.
Notes
- Stony Brook made 16-of-21 foul shots. The Seawolves have now made 30-of-36 free throws over their last two contests.
- The Seawolves defense came through late, holding the River Hawks to just four field goals (4-for-13) in the fourth quarter.
- Both teams turned the ball over 14 times on the night. UMass Lowell grabbed 35 rebounds, while the Seawolves tallied 34.
- With the win, Stony Brook is now 10-0 all-time vs. the River Hawks (Division I era).
