Seawolves Stumble in Series Opener at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y.  – The Stony Brook baseball team stumbled on Friday afternoon in the series opener against UAlbany and fell 5-4 at Varsity Field.

Sophomore SS Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) singled, walked, scored a run and collected two stolen bases in the losing effort.

Senior LHP Cole Creighton (Levittown, Pa.) pitched well in relief for the Seawolves (19-13, 6-4 AE). He went 4.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits and struck out four.

Turning Point
After Stony Brook took a 3-2 lead in the third inning, UAlbany was able to score one in the fourth inning to knot the score at 3-3 before Great Dane leadoff batter Travis Collins homered in the fifth to give them a 4-3 lead.

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"Despite not having a very good day at the plate, we hung in and had a chance to tie or go ahead to the very last out. I fully expect tomorrow we'll be better offensively and look forward to a strong determined effort for all sixteen innings of the doubleheader."
