STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook softball team took on UMBC in a conference single game on Wednesday, May 2. With the Seawolves win they took the series 2-1 and move to 8-6 in conference play.

"We really had to grind this game out. Our pitchers gave us a chance to win. Our best offensive execution was in the ninth with Ally getting it started with a big pinch hit single, Jourdin following with a great bunt and Irene delivering the winning RBI. It was important to win the series and we had to fight for this one ," said head coach

Highlights
- UMBC got on the board first scoring one run on one hit in the top of the first.
- Stony Brook answered in the bottom of the first when Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) led off with a solo home run over the center field fence. Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) singled to center field and then advanced to second on a ground ball. Rivera scored on a single to left center by Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.).
- After five quick innings UMBC tied the game up in the top of the seventh scoring one run on three hits.
- In the bottom of the ninth Allyssa Malony (Runnemede, N.J.) singled up the middle and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.). With two outs Rivera doubled to right center scoring Malony and winning the game for the Seawolves.
