Seawolves To Open Home Conference Slate vs. UMass Lowell

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- After opening America East play with a win over Albany, the Stony Brook men's soccer team is set to host conference-favorite UMass Lowell on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. from LaValle Stadium. This will be just the Seawolves' second game since Sept. 15 after Tuesday afternoon's match against Sacred Heart was postponed.

Seawolves Notes 
  • Senior Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) has scored five of the Seawolves' last seven goals, including the game-winner against Albany. He has won America East Offensive Player of the Week two times this season.
  • Last time out, junior Mark Irvine (Southampton, England) picked up his second assist of the season when he found redshirt sophomore Gabriel Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) for a late first-half goal.
  • Freshman Christian Miesch (Brig, Switzerland) has started all but one contests in net for the Seawolves, owning a .735 save percentage. 
  • The Seawolves last met up with UMass Lowell last season, falling 1-0 in Lowell. 
  • Stony Brook has outshot its opponent in six of the season's first eight games. 
  • The Seawolves (16 points) were tabbed sixth in the America East preseason poll, just ahead of Hartford (12 points) and Binghamton (11 points). UMass-Lowell (44 points), New Hampshire (42 points) and Albany (40 points) finished atop the poll heading into the new season. 

Scouting UMass Lowell 
  • The Riverhawks sit at 6-2-2 (1-0-0 AE) this season after falling to Holy Cross, 2-1 on Tuesday. 
  • UML is ranked #16 in the most recent Top 25 poll.
  • UMass Lowell opened its conference slate on Sept. 22 by beating Vermont, 2-0.
  • Redshirt junior Stanley Alves leads the Riverhawks with four goals on the season, followed by junior Roko Prsa, who has three. 
  • Senior Zach Rowell has tallied most of the minutes in net, leading the conference with a .497 GAA.
  • UML has shutout its opponents in five contests this season.
  • The Riverhawks are coached by Christian Figueroa, who is in his sixth full season at the helm. He owns a 65-49-9 record, good for the second-most wins in program history.
