STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Stony Brook football 2018 seniors
Donald Liotine (Medford, N.Y.) and
Shayne Lawless (Moorestown, N.J.) were both named to the 2018 FCS Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic All-Star Team, it was released by the organization this past weekend.
The duo was two of 47 FCS student-athletes named to the list that was chosen from over 100 nominations.
Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees was required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. They must have reached their second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. They must also have participated in 50 percent (50%) of the games played at their designated position.
Liotine collected a 3.93 GPA while he is pursuing his masters in finance at Stony Brook. He played in all 12 games for the Seawolves in 2018 with 11 starts at running back and recorded 1,148 yards rushing with six touchdowns. Liotine also pulled down eight receptions for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns and posted 1,620 all-purpose yards.
Lawless earned a 4.0 GPA while going after his masters in business administration. He played and started all 12 games for the Seawolves at linebacker and recorded 89 total tackles with a team-best 13.5 tackles for a loss with a pair of fumble recoveries that included a 54-yard return for a touchdown.
Both Liotine and Lawless were named first team All-CAA Football on their way to guiding Stony Brook to a 7-5 overall record in 2018 that included a second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championships.
