BOSTON – The Stony Brook women's basketball team was picked to finish second in the America East as the conference unveiled its preseason poll results on Wednesday morning. This is the second year in a row the Seawolves were predicted to be the league runner-up as the team was selected second along with Hartford leading up to the 2018-19 season.

Maine was the unanimous favorite to win the America East with 64 points from eight first-place votes. Stony Brook followed with 55 points while UAlbany rounded out the top three with 52 points – including one first-place vote.Â

Additionally, junior
India Pagan (New London, Conn.) was named to the Preseason All-Conference team. Pagan is coming off of a big sophomore year where she was the Seawolves' leading rebounder with 179 boards. With 363 points scored last season (12.1 per game), she is also Stony Brook's top returning scorer.

Stony Brook had a successful season in 2018-19, going 23-8 overall and 11-5 in conference play en route to a semifinal appearance in the America East Playoffs.Â

The team opens up its 2019-20 campaign on the road, taking a trip to St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
