Seventh Clean Sheet of 2019 Springs Seawolves to Road Victory

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Stony Brook women's soccer program is back in first by themselves after a 2-0 win over Vermont on Sunday afternoon in Burlington.

Juniors Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Fanny Götesson (Varnamo, Sweden) each scored to give the Seawolves all they would need en route to the team's seventh clean sheet of the year.

BISCHOF'S REACTION
"This was a great win on the road. We used 18 players this afternoon and it was a total team effort to earn it. I am also very happy with our defense that preserved a shutout."

SCORING SUMMARY
  • 24th minute – Stony Brook 1, Vermont 0 – Francese scored after a scrum in front, as freshman Catharina von Drigalski (Oberursel, Germany) played a corner into the box that was punched to the keeper but the Yorktown Heights native was waiting to head it home.
  • 88th minute – Stony Brook 2, Vermont 0 – Junior Erin O'Connor (Setauket, N.Y.) took the ball and was off to the races, going the length of the field and dishing off to Götesson, who was able to beat a defender and finish far post.
