STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Senior
Cameron Avery (Christchurch, New Zealand) and junior
Sofia Manner (Helsinki, Finland) were named the Centereach Hyundai Student Athletes of the Month, Stony Brook Athletics announced on Wednesday.
Avery was named an America East Performer of the Week during the month after a pair of individual Top 10 finishes in October, finishing fourth out of 240 runners at the Princeton Invitational and 6th out of 366 runners at the Paul Short Run. He will lead his team into the America East Cross Country Championships on Saturday on the campus of UAlbany.
Manner recorded four clean sheets in the month of October, helping the Seawolves to a 5-1-0 record and aiding in clinching a home game in the 2019 postseason. She added a six-save effort in the win against UAlbany, holding their explosive offense to just one goal in a 3-1 victory on October 17. She leads the America East with eight shutouts on the year.
The women's soccer team will have a home America East Tournament game on either November 3 or 7, depending on the results of Thursday night's contest at Hartford and results elsewhere in the league. After the league championship meet this weekend, cross country will have the NCAA Northeast Regional and ECAC/IC4A Championships ahead.
