Seawolves Fall at UMass Lowell

Box Score LOWELL, Mass. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team fell to UMass Lowell, 2-1 on Saturday night from Cushing Field. The Seawolves fall to 4-10-2 (1-5-0 AE) while UMass Lowell moves to 8-6-1 (3-3-0 AE) with the result.

Highlights
  • Sophomore Trausti Birgisson (Kopavogur, Iceland) took the first shot of the night, missing wide in the third minute.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Edmond Kaiser (Karlsruhe, Germany) made his first of three first-half saves in the 13th minute to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Seawolves first shot on goal of the contest came on a free kick by Birgisson in the 19th minute but his shot was saved by Lowell keeper Patrik Gujic.
  • Five minutes into the second half, UMass Lowell took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sancho Maroto Tobias.
  • Maroto Tobias doubled the River Hawk lead with a goal in the 66th minute.
  • In the 71st minute, freshman defender Sebastian Rojek (Wayne, N.J.) found the back of the net off a corner kick to trim the deficit to one.
  • The Seawolves nearly equalized in the 86th minute but neither shot attempt converted.

Stats and Notes
  • Rojek's late goal was the first of his collegiate career.
  • Rojek has now tallied a point in two consecutive games after dishing out an assist in the win over UAlbany.
  • Kaiser made seven saves in the contest, one short of his career high.
