STONY BROOK, N.Y. – After both teams combined for 14 points in the first 10 minutes, the Stony Brook women's basketball team kept its defensive edge and ramped up the offense, tallying 24 in the second frame to take control of its 59-40 defeat of Iona at Island Federal Arena on Thursday night.
Junior
India Pagan (New London, Conn.) paced three Seawolves in double figures with a 16-point effort. She also added seven boards and three steals in a game in which her squad led by as much as 24 in the fourth quarter.

"I thought we were working hard early but our shots just weren't falling. Our focus was much better in the second quarter and we locked in by getting stops on defense and pushing the ball in transition. It was really good to protect our home court tonight".
HIGHLIGHTS
- After a tight first quarter and a half saw Stony Brook up 14-13, the Seawolves took control with a 15-4 run that spanned 4:46 to all-but close out the frame.
- Stony Brook shot 7-for-9 during the stretch, with Pagan scoring eight of the 15 points.
- Iona scored six of the next eight to cut the lead down to eight, but the Seawolves pulled away again with an 11-0 spurt over a 4:44 span to make it 42-23 home team with 4:44 to play.
- Sophomore Anastasia Warren (Atlanta, Ga.) had seven during that span.
- The visiting Gaels tried to make a run at the end of the period but graduate student Kaela Hilaire (Queens, N.Y.) hit a buzzer-beating jumper to help Stony Brook seize the momentum into the fourth.
- Stony Brook defended its advantage in the fourth, keeping the Gaels at bay and never letting them get closer than 19 the rest of the way.

- 24 points ties the Seawolves' second-highest scoring output in a quarter this season, matching its third-quarter total at Hofstra.
- The Seawolves have now won seven in a row inside Island Federal Arena.
- Stony Brook shot 19-for-32 (59.4 percent) in the second and third quarters.
- Hilaire (10) and Warren (10) joined Pagan with double figures in points tonight.
- Freshman Gigi Gonzalez (Miramar, Fla.) set a new career high by hitting a pair of triples tonight.
- Graduate student Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) grabbed five offensive rebounds. She's averaging 6.4 offensive boards per contest this season.
- She entered the night third in the nation in that category.
- Redshirt-junior Oksana Gouchie-Provencher (Montreal, Canada) had a season-high seven rebounds.
- Pagan's seven boards are the most since her season-opening 11 at St. Francis Brooklyn.
