Stony Brook Downed in Series Finale

MIAMI – The Stony Brook baseball team fell in the series finale at Florida International, dropping a 13-2 decision to the Panthers on Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves finish the weekend taking two of three from the hosts after wins on Friday and Saturday night.

Junior Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) finished the day with a trio of hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Brandon Janofsky (Jackson, N.J.) each had a pair of hits while freshman Nick DeGennaro (Toms River, N.J.) threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out two.

SENK'S REACTION
"It was a very disappointing result for us this afternoon, but overall, we are very pleased with the start to the weekend, taking two of three in the series."

SCORING SUMMARY
  • After an RBI ground out made it 1-0 Panthers in the second, FIU's offense rattled off four straight hits: two doubles, a single and an inside-the-park home run to put the lead at 7-0 after two.
  • Hamilton was able to bring in the lone two runs for Florida International, hitting a grounder in between first and second. The ball was thrown wild to the pitcher covering, allowing Evan Giordano (Sewell, N.J.) and Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) each to score and make it 7-2 at the halfway point.
  • Another productive out scored FIU's eighth run, a sacrifice fly to center.
  • An RBI single made it 9-2 and then a pair of two-run hits extended the lead to its final line at 13-2.

NOTES
  • Wilson finished the weekend with eight hits in 14 at bats to go along with a pair of home runs and five RBI.
  • Giordano and classmate Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) each recorded their first career hits on the afternoon.
  • Junior Jared Milch (Pacifica, Calif.) made his first career start for the Seawolves.
  • Along with DeGennaro, freshmen Liam Pulsipher (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Ben Fero (Trumbull, Conn.) pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings, respectively, in their first career appearances on the mound.
  • The Seawolves won their second opening weekend series in as many seasons after a sweep of Nichols State last season.
