VESTAL, N.Y. – Hitting 13 threes on the night, one away from the program's record in a game, the Stony Brook men's basketball team went ahead early and ran away from Binghamton on Wednesday night, defeating the Bearcats 85-59 in front of 1683 at the Events Center.
Freshman
Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.) led all scorers with 19 points, hitting five of his seven shots from outside the arc. Sophomore
Elijah Olaniyi (Newark, N.J.) scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while senior
Jaron Cornish (Abaco, Bahamas) and sophomore
Jeff Otchere (Bronx, N.Y.) each chipped in 11 on the night.
BOALS REACTION
"Really proud of our guys. I think we did a great job sharing the basketball. Their zone bothered us in the first game, but we made a concerted effort of getting the ball inside then out and we had 21 assists. When the ball goes in from three, it makes the job a little easier."
HIGHLIGHTS
- Stony Brook started hot, scoring eight of the game's first 11 points as an Otchere dunk put the Seawolves up 8-3 inside of three minutes into the contest.
- The lead first hit double figures with 14:32 to go in the half, as a Latimer triple made it 19-8 as the Seawolves scored 29 points in the first 10 minutes of the contest.
- Freshman Jules Moor (Houston, Texas) added a three from the corner to make it 32-15 with 9:25 to go in the period.
- The Seawolves' offense cooled down, scoring seven points in the final 9:25 of the half but the Bearcats outscored them by one to cut slightly into the lead, making it 39-25 at the break.
- The Bearcats came out strong in the second half, hitting a trio of threes to make it a seven-point Stony Brook lead inside of two minutes into the half.
- That is as close as it would get in the period though. After Binghamton cut the lead to nine, Latimer went back-to-back-to-back to blow the lead back up to 16 and all but seal Stony Brook's fate.
- Otchere joined in on the fun, catching a lob from Latimer and flushing it off the in-bounds to join the freshman and Olaniyi in double figures and Stony Brook would make it 60-46 at the halfway point.
- Richard Caldwell made it 62-50 with 7:50 to play, but Stony Brook scored 23 of the game's final 32 points to pull away, including freshman Hassan Ceesay's (Newark, N.J.) first-career points with inside a minute left.

- 13 threes are one off the program's most ever hit from the outside, also set against Binghamton. They are the most the team has hit this season.
- After going 2-for-22 at UMBC, the Seawolves are shooting 44 perent (23/52) as a team from outside the arc in the last two games.
- Stony Brook's 52-percent output from 3-point land is the best of the season, taking down an even 50 percent effort against Quinnipiac on December 1.
- The Seawolves have grabbed 51 boards in each of their last two games after not hauling in more than 40 in their previous three.
- The team's 21 assists are a season-high, besting the 18 they dished at Maine on January 19.

- Stony Brook has had four players in double figures in scoring in each of the last two games. They are 12-0 when this happens.

- In his last two games, Olaniyi is shooting 62.1 percent (18/29) from the field and 58.3 percent (7/12) from 3-point land.
