BALTIMORE – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team got back in the win column on Wednesday night, downing America East opponent UMBC at UMBC Stadium by a score of 16-5.

This marks the eighth-straight year that the Seawolves have won its conference opener.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Ally Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.)and Siobhan Rafferty (Long Beach, N.Y.) shined for Stony Brook, combining for 11 of the team's 16 goals.
- Both earned career highs with Kennedy scoring six while Rafferty laid claim to five.
- The Seawolves scored the first four goals of the evening as Kennedy, Jesse Arline (Wading River, N.Y.) and Rafferty (2) all got on the board.
- UMBC put in the game's next two tallies, but Stony Brook notched three unanswered to pull out a 7-3 lead at the half.
- It was all Stony Brook in the second as the Seawolves outscored the Retrievers, 9-2.
- Kennedy converted back-to-back tries from the free position one minute apart from each other and Rafferty scored her fifth of the night to make it a 10-goal advantage.
- Rayna Sabella (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) put the cherry on top with five minutes remaining to round out the Seawolves' scoring.
- Anna Tesoriero (Huntington, N.Y.) made eight saves in goal and picked up two ground balls.

- Goals also came from Taryn Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.)and Nicole Barretta (Exton, Pa.) (2).
- Ohlmiller and Kennedy have scored in all six games so far.
- Kennedy also paced Stony Brook in draw controls with eight.
- Carlee Janelli (Glen Head, N.Y.), Sabella, Barretta and Rafferty each had two caused turnovers.
- Stony Brook outshot UMBC by a 37-15 margin and forced the Retrievers to turn the ball over 18 total times.
- The home team held a 14-10 advantage in ground balls, but the Seawolves had the edge in draw controls, 13-10.
- The squad's 11-goal decision is its biggest margin of victory this season.
- Head coach Joe Spallina is just one win shy of hitting 200 victories as a head coach.
