WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior attacker
Connor Grippe (Setauket, N.Y.) netted his second career hat trick for the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team fell 12-11 to Hartford in the America East Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
The Hawks (1-6, 1-0 AE) opened the game with three quick goals and the Seawolves (3-4, 0-1 AE) were forced to play catch-up the rest of the game.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Seawolves outscored Hartford in both the second and fourth quarters. Stony Brook got goals from sophomore attacker Patrick Kaschalk (Windsor, Ontario), sophomore defender Devin O'Leary (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Connor Grippe in the second quarter. Freshman midfielder Layton Harrell (Newtown, Conn.), junior attacker Cory VanGinhoven (Fort Mill, N.C.), Kaschalk and Grippe all scored in the fourth quarter.

- Freshman FO Austin Deskewicz (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) made his collegiate debut on Saturday at Hartford.
- Junior attacker Tom Haun (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) netted his 58th career goal on Saturday with his 13th goal of the season. He also extended his consecutive games with a goal streak to seven.
- Haun added an assist in the fourth quarter, his seventh of the season and 35th of his career. It also marks his fifth multi-point game of the season and 26th of his career.
- Patrick Kaschalk scored his 24th and 25th goals of his career and fifth and sixth of the season.
- Devin O'Leary netted his second goal of the season and second of his career in the second quarter on Saturday.
- Connor Grippe scored his fourth, fifth and sixth goals of the season and the 17th, 18th and 19th of his career with a goal on Saturday. It marks his second multi-goal game of the season and fourth of his career. It was his first hat trick of the season and second of his career.
- Sophomore attacker Jack Walsh (Miller Place, N.Y.) collected his ninth, 10th and 11th assists of the season and 34th, 35th and 36th of his career on Saturday.
- Walsh added third goal of the season for his fourth multi-point game of the season and 12th of his career.
- Senior LSM Ryland Rees (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) netted his first goal of the season and the 13th of his career on Saturday at Hartford.
- Freshman midfielder Layton Harrell (Newtown, Conn.) scored his fifth goal of the season on Saturday.
- Cory VanGinhoven posted his sixth goal of the season and 36th of his career on Saturday.
