Rahrich’s Two-Run Homer Powers Stony Brook Past Fordham

STONY BROOK, N.Y.- Led by Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) in the circle and at the plate, the Seawolves defeated Fordham Tuesday afternoon by a score of 4-1.

Rahrich pitched all seven innings only giving up one run, and at the plate capped off a three-run sixth inning with a two-run homer.

COACH BRYANT'S THOUGHTS
"It was great to play at home and we found a way to win a tough ballgame today. Mel threw well and we were able to get some scoring going late with productive at-bats. Our defense was solid and that made the difference in the game."

 SCORING SUMMARY
  • The Rams got their lone run in the top of the third on a leadoff homerun by Jordy Storm.
  • The Seawolves tied the game up at one in the bottom of the fifth after Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) led off with a double and Danielle Petrovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) pinch ran for her, Lindsey Osmer (Martinez, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice advancing Petrovich to third, and Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.) drove Petrovich in on a sac fly.
  • Stony Brook tacked on three runs in the bottom of the sixth after Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) led off with a single, advanced to second when Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice and throwing error by the shortstop, and then scored on throwing error by the right fielder making it 2-1.
  • Rahrich then came up to bat in that same inning hitting a two-run homer driving in Corr making it 4-1.
NOTES
  • With Rahrich's solid pitching performance, she picked up her second win of the season.
  • Hering went 3-3 at the plate, picking up her sixth multi-hit game of the season.
  • With the victory, the team is on a five game winning streak.
