Rahrich’s Stellar Performance in the Circle Leads Stony Brook to Series Win at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CONN.- Led by Melissa Rahrich's (Brighton, Colo.) strong performance in the circle, the Seawolves took down Hartford on Sunday. With the victory, Stony Brook took its first conference series of the season.
 
Rahrich went all five innings in the circle, blanking the Hawks only giving up three hits while striking out five.
 
Jordyn Nowakowski (San Diego, Calif.) and Rahrich paced the offense for the Seawolves. Nowakowski hit two solo home runs, and Rahrich drove in four runs. 
 
COACH BRYANT'S THOUGHTS
"We came out with a great approach today and that was important to winning the game and the series. We were productive offensively, pitched tough and worked our way out of the situations when Hartford got runners on. Keeping the momentum on our side for the entire game was key."
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • The Seawolves got off to a quick start in the top of the first, scoring three runs. After Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) led off of a single and Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) doubled, Rahrich drove them both in on a RBI double making it 2-0.
  • Nicole McCarvill (Clifton Park, N.Y.) drove in Rahrich on a RBI single later in the inning making it 3-0.
  • Stony Brook tacked on a run in the top of the second after Corr doubled, Rahrich drove her in on a RBI single making it 4-0.
  • The Seawolves made it 5-0 in the top of the third on a solo home run by Nowakowski.
  • Stony Brook added a pair in the top of the fourth after Hering singled, Corr singled and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder which scored Hering making it 6-0.
  • Rahrich brought home Corr later in the inning on a RBI single making it 7-0.
  • Stony Brook finished its scoring in the top of the fifth that started after Nowakowski hit her second home run of the game making it 8-0.
  • After McCarvill singled and advanced to third, Chloe Vangorder (Harvey's Lake, Pa.) brought her home on RBI single making it 9-0.
 
NOTES
  • Rahrich picked up her seventh win in the circle.
  • Nowakowski now has four home runs for the season.
  • The Seawolves are 2-1 in conference play after the series win.

The Seawolves return home to face Wagner on Tuesday at 2 pm.
