Nine-Run Second Inning Leads Stony Brook Past Wagner

STONY BROOK, N.Y.- Led by a stellar pitching performance by Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) and a nine-run second inning, the Stony Brook softball team took down Wagner on Tuesday. The Seawolves defeated the Seahawks by a score of 9-1, in five innings. 
 
Denman went all five innings in the circle, giving up no earned runs and striking out four.

 "We had a solid outing today and were efficient offensively, using timely hits, the small game and the long ball."

SCORING SUMMARY
  • The Seawolves got on the board in the bottom of the second after Nicole McCarvill (Clifton Park, N.Y.) singled and then scored after Lindsey Osmer (Martinez, Calif.) reached on an error by the shortstop making it 1-0.
  • Stony Brook made it 2-0 after Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.) singled, Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) brought home Osmer on a RBI single.
  • Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) brought home Corr and Osmer with a three-run homer making it 5-0.
  • The inning continued after Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif,) and Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.), and Jordyn Nowakowski (San Diego, Calif,) singled to load the bases, McCarvill brought home Rivera and Craig on a RBI double making it 7-0.
  • The nine-run inning came to a close after Lance brought home Nowakowski and McCarvill on a RBI single making it 9-0.
  • Wagner got its lone run in the top of the third after a single eventually came around to score on a RBI single making it 9-1.
 
NOTES
  • Denman picked up her fifth win of the season in the circle.
  • Rahrich's homer was her eighth of the season.
  • Stony Brook has won three straight.

The Seawolves will head west on 495 for 3 pm game against Hofstra on Wednesday.
