Stony Brook Falls to Yale and Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, FLA.- The Stony Brook softball team was defeated by Yale and Florida Atlantic on the first day of the FAU/FIU Tournament on Friday. The Seawolves fell to the Bulldogs 8-2, and 7-3 to the Owls.
 
GAME 1: YALE 8, STONY BROOK 2
  • The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the second after a leadoff single that eventually came around to score making it 1-0.
  • Yale added three runs in the top of the third after a leadoff double, a walk and three straight singles to drive them in making it 4-0.
  • The Seawolves got their first run of the game when Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) hit her second home run of the season making it 4-1 in the bottom of the third.
  • Yale made it 5-1 in the top of the fourth after loading the bases and Stony Brook walked in a run. 
  • The Bulldogs finished their scoring in the top of the fifth after a leadoff triple came around to score on an error, and then a two run homer made it 8-1.
  • The Seawolves got their second run of the game after Lindsey Osmer (Martinez, Calif.) led off the bottom of the sixth and was hit by a pitch, Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.) doubled and Rahrich drove in Osmer on third with a sac fly making it 8-2.
NOTES VS. YALE
  • Stony Brook had its opportunities, as the team had the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, bottom of the third, and the bottom of the sixth. 
  • Rahrich, Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) and Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) all tallied two hits in the loss. 
  • Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) made her first collegiate start in the circle.

GAME 2: STONY BROOK 3, FAU 7
  • The Seawolves got on the board first after Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) led the game off with a single and Rahrich drove her in with an RBI single making it 1-0.
  • FAU had a six run first inning that began with a leadoff walk, followed by two singles that tied the game at 1.
  • The six run first inning for the Owls continued after they loaded up the bases driving in four more runs on RBI single, a walked in run, an error, and a wild pitch making it 5-1.
  • The scoring for FAU ended on another walked in run.
  • Stony Brook added two runs in the top of the third inning after Rahrich ended up on third after a double by Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) and the both of them were brought home on a RBI single by Pechin.
  • Rahrich started for the Seawolves in the circle, and settled down after the first inning putting up zeroes until the Owl's tacked on their seventh run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. 
NOTES VS. FAU
  • Hering, Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.), Rivera, Pechin, and Osmer all recorded two hits.
  • Osmer recorded her first collegiate hit in the game.

ON DECK
The Seawolves will head to Miami on Saturday to take on Florida A&M at 2:15 pm and FIU at 4:30 pm.
