STONY BROOK, N.Y.- Led by spectacular pitching in the circle from
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) in game one and
Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) in game two, the Seawolves completed the doubleheader sweep against UMBC on Wednesday.
Rahrich pitched all seven innings in the circle in game one, only giving up one run. She struck out six, and earned her eighth victory of the season.
Denman pitched six innings in the circle in game two, only giving up one run. She struck out three, and picked up her seventh win of the season.
Rahrich got the save in game two, shutting the door after UMBC got a leadoff double in the seventh inning.

GAME 1: STONY BROOK 2, UMBC 1
- Stony Brook got on the board first in the bottom of the third. After Nicole McCarvill (Clifton Park, N.Y.) walked to lead off the inning, she advanced to second on a sac bunt by Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.), then went to third on a wild pitch and was brought home on a RBI double by Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.).
- UMBC tied the game up at one in the top of the fifth on a leadoff home run.
- The Seawolves got their winning run in the bottom of the seventh after Lance tripled to right field, Chloe VanGorder (Harvey's Lake, Pa.) came up to pinch hit and brought her home on a walk off sac fly making it 2-1.
NOTES
- Rahrich went all seven innings in the circle, only giving up one run.
- Rahrich is now 8-9 on the season.
- Corr, Rahrich, Jordyn Nowakowski (San Diego, Calif.) and Lance tallied hits in the victory.
GAME 2: STONY BROOK 2, UMBC 1
- Stony Brook got on the board in the bottom of the first after Corr singled and advanced to second on a groundout, Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) brought her home on a RBI single making it 1-0.
- The Retrievers tied the game up at one in the top of the second on a leadoff home run.
- The Seawolves got their second run of the game after Lance reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to third on a bunt single by Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.), and Corr brought her home on a RBI single making it 2-1.
NOTES
- Denman went six innings in the circle, only giving up the one run.
- Denman is now 7-2 on the season.
- Hering and Corr each tallied two hits in the win.
- The Seawolves improve their conference record to 5-3 with the two wins.
ON DECK
The Seawolves will head to UAlbany for a three-game weekend series. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 pm, and then a single game on Sunday at 12 pm.
