Pechin’s Three RBIs Lead Stony Brook to Doubleheader Split with UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y.- The Stony Brook softball team split a doubleheader with UAlbany on Saturday. The team took game one by a score of 4-0, but dropped game two 6-3. 

Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) was stellar in the circle in game one, going all seven innings in the circle, not giving up any runs. Rahrich struck out six, and earned her ninth victory of the season. 
 
Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) had a strong day at the plate in game one, picking up two hits and three RBIs. Pechin had a key two-run single in the first inning, and hit her first home run of the season in the seventh.
 
COACH BRYANT'S THOUGHTS
"We had a great approach in game one and all three parts of our game were excellent. We continued with good defense in game two but needed to be better in the circle and with our offensive production. It's always a battle with Albany and we look forward to game three tomorrow."
 
GAME 1: STONY BROOK 4, UALBANY 0
  • The Seawolves scored three in the top of the first. After Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) reached on an error and Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) walked, Rahrich brought home Hering on a RBI single making it 1-0.
  • The inning continued after Pechin brought home Corr and Rahrich on a RBI single making 3-0.
  • Pechin hit her first home run of the season leading off in the top of the seventh making it 4-0.
 
NOTES
  • Rahrich pitched all seven innings in the circle, giving up no runs.
  • Rahrich is now 9-9 on the season.
  • Pechin and Rahrich each tallied two hits in the victory.
 
GAME 2: UALBANY 6, STONY BROOK 3
  • Stony Brook got on the board in the top of the first after Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) brought home Corr on a RBI single making it 1-0.
  • UAlbany scored three in the bottom of the first. The Great Danes first brought home a pair on RBI double, then tacked on another on a RBI single making it 3-1.
  • The Great Danes brought home another run in the bottom of the third making it 4-1.
  • The Seawolves scored a pair in the top of the fifth after Ally Dabroski (Cedar Grove, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.) doubled, Hering brought home Dabroski on a sac fly making it 4-2.
  • The UAlbany lead was only by one after Corr brought home Lance on a RBI single making it 4-3.
  • The Great Danes responded in the bottom of the fifth with two runs, and held on for the 6-3 win.
 
NOTES
  • Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) started in the circle, and only went two innings while giving up four runs. 
  • Pechin pitched four innings in the circle after Denman, giving up two runs.
  • Denman is now 7-3 on the season. 
  • With the split, the Seawolves are 6-4 in conference play.
 
ON DECK
The final game of the series with UAlbany will take place at noon on Sunday.
